(it was said before.)
sp1200/mpc400/sp303/sp606 and maybe korg esx1...(and an sp555 lately? can anyone confim that?)

When was it said before? He said the only thing he used the MPC (2000) on was "shopping bags" by de la soul.
Ive never seen him or anyone in his camp mention his use of a 4000, ESX, or 555.

shopping bags was the 4000, not 2000xl, i believe. if you have the behind the beat book you can easily spot the 4000 and electribe esx in his setup. you can see him using j-rocc's sp-555 in that adult swim video posted.

you can see the 2000xl+sp-303 setup in the brasilintime clip on youtube.

this is an old thread, but i think among some there's a misconception that madlib used a 303 alone. he used it with a external roland multi-track recorded. you simply can't make a lot of the shit on madvillain with just a 303, it's too stereo.

What I would do to hear the stuff on beat tapes of Madlib that doesn't make it to commercial releases.
The recordings of him just fucking around and passes it amongst his friends.
The stuff that's made with samples that would never clear or be too expensive to.
The beat batches that didn't get picked by artists.
The dude makes so much music and we phenes only get to hear a small percentage of it.

I LOVE DA LOOP DIGGA.

I recently WATCHed HIS RED BULL INTERVIEW.
entertaining.
HE"S A CHILL DUDE.
JUST AS IMPORTANT THAN HIS TECHNIQUE is HIS WORK ETHIC.
HE SEEMs LIKE the type of dude who gets enraptured by whatever
he's doing. He doesn't seem like the type of guy to attach himself with the how what who where and why of things.
Id imagine when he figures something out,
he'd be like OH thats whats up.
ya know
maybe he was
experimenting not realizing he was developing his signature style.
i know the x's and o's are a definite factor.
BUT he enjoys what he does.
I remember seeing a video of him saying how much he wanted to be like DJ Premier, Prince Paul, and Marly Marl.
Ya know
Once He said that, I could hear those influences.
I know he likes to learn new things.
Which certainly feels like its through trail and no error
alright that's what i did.
ONE THING I KNOW FIRST HAND
LIKE DILLA HE LISTENs TO RECORDS
FRONT AND BACK. BECOMES FAMILIAR WITH THEM.

Sorry fellow madlib-ians for being that non technical post.

ANYWAYS THANK YALL
READING THIS THREAD HAS BEEN HELPFUL AND INFORMATIVE.
