so i just ordered the sp303 and it doesn't have a smartmedia card i read that it can take up to 128mb smartmedia cards but then here
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13658
it says that the fastest cards are 16 and 32mb cards...just want to be sure i have enough room to work with on those size cards??

when i build a track on my 404 and send it to my 303 will i get the '303 sound' or do i have to build the track on the 303 to give it that quality of warmness. my plan is to build on 404, send to 303 to give it the quality sound then back the 404 to export..not sure if it will work like this

To get the 303 sound, you pretty much gotta resample a few times. I don't think it matters which order you record in to the 303.

what i want to know mostly know is what size smartmedia card to get 128MB, 64MB, or 32MB. if it really makes a difference on how fast it makes the 303 then i'd rather have less space

I've never used a 303 but in my experience with any media card, the size doesn't make much of a speed difference until you actually begin to fill up the memory. Cause at that point it has more information to sort through. Like I said though, this is only through my experience on the 404sx and with digital cameras.

The card size does make a difference on the 303 and 505. My GF has two 303s that came with 64mb and 128mb cards. They were slow as shit. I traded her two 16mb cards from my sampletraks for her 64mb cards. The speed difference was very noticeable. On a 16mb card you will have a difficult time maxing out memory because there's only 2 banks of 8 sounds. I compromised with the 64mb cards for my 505 because it has 16 card banks with 16 sounds each. I have yet to max out the card even while filling the banks. On my 505 when I have no memory card inserted and use only internal memory processing time is nearly twice as fast. Anybody who has used these machines will say the same. Coming from a 404 both machines are slow, but with the added features of the 505 I can tolerate it.

my plan is to use the 303 as a recorder....im gonna play out tracks on the 404 and record into the 303. just want to be sure i have enough room with a 16mb, but you're saying its very hard to max out so ill probably go with that.

are both of these compatible with the 303? amazon has it for $17
while oempcworld has it for $34..
