Hey guys,

So normally I just play the pads out into ableton, but I got a card reader today and want to try and use it. But anytime I load in the smartmedia card it gives me files that my mac book pro cant read. My question is, is there a way to convert them to wav. or aiff, or should I get an app that will read the smartmedia files.

Sorry if this is covered already, I couldnt find a way to look it up.

BTW, this forum rules.

Thanks,

KI

the 303 (505 too) files aren't convertible in any other files. they're boss/roland unconvertible type of files.
for the "app" question:
3 possibilities,
1)that mac can't read that smartreader 2)the reader is broken 3)the smartmedia is corrupted someway...
do the 303 reads the card without troubles?

It reads the card, and the card is recognized by the computer, but if I wanted to load the sample into ableton or something, would it recognize the roland file? Like my itunes or whatever wont play the sample, like it would with a CF card.

Thanks for the reply!

Easiest way to do it is to plug the line out or headphone out of your 303 to the line in on your computer. Record all the sounds you want either with ableton or audacity (if you need a free wav editor).

The memory card is most useful to back up your sounds to your computer. They will not be backed up as normal wav files, but you'll still be able to load them up on the 303 later if you want.

SP404sx is the only SP sampler to directly read and write wav files without any converting.

I will repeat this again. The files on the smartmedia card only can be read by the 303. Having a card reader and the SM card is not a waste because it allows you to back up what's on your 303 so you can start fresh once it's full.

Thanks man, I appreciate it.

Now I dont have to feel bad deleting them off the sp, after I record them into Ableton.

i've tryed to use the smart media usb adapter too, but is a mess of time. I suggest to you to work with the sp, and then (with a good audio device) record it to your ableton live, and use the loops. It's better to start from vinyl recorded into the sp, have all the work done, and than export as loops with recordings.
